The Club round of the 2026/27 Rotary Young Chef Competition, hosted by King Henry VIII School, was a vibrant and inspiring showcase of youthful creativity, confidence, and culinary flair. Held on Friday 19th June 2026, the event welcomed 18 talented young cooks who stepped into the school’s bustling food technology department with determination and enthusiasm.
🌟 A Day Filled with Energy, Skill, and Creativity
From the moment the competition began, the school’s food technology department buzzed with focus and determination. As the Rotary Young Chef programme requires, each participant prepared a nutritious two‑course mealwithin a strict budget and time limit.
The room was filled with energy and focus as competitors demonstrated impressive technical ability, excellent organisation, and flair in presentation. Their dishes reflected both skill and passion — the hallmark of future culinary stars.
🏆 Announcing the Finalists
After careful deliberation, the judge, Mark Coulton of Sugarloaf Catering, selected two outstanding finalists:
· Rosie Hodges and Grace Davies.

Mark praised the overall standard as “exceptional,” noting the high quality of preparation, hygiene, organisation, taste, presentation, and value for money.
Rosie and Grace will now progress to the Cook Off at Abergavenny Food Festival, where one will earn a coveted place in the District Round.
👏 Celebrating the Team Behind the Event
The Rotary Club expressed sincere thanks to:
· Mark Coulton, for generously giving his time and expertise
· Mrs Brassington, the school’s dedicated Food Technology Teacher, for her invaluable support in organising and hosting the event.
Rotary Youth Chairman Anthony Davies captured the spirit of the day, stating:
“The standard of cooking we witnessed was truly inspiring… We are extremely proud of all who took part and wish Rosie and Grace every success in the next stage of the competition.”
