At the Chef's Kitchen, Abergavenny Food Festival. Young chefs Jenson & Rosie cooking on stage with judge Stephen Terry on the microphone.

Rosie and Jenson went head to head at the Abergavenny Food Festival.

On Sunday 20th September, Rosie & Jenson astounded the crowd in the Chef’s Kitchen, in the Upper Brewery Yard. Cooking live, the young chefs showed such confidence in an environment most would find daunting.

What a close run final it was too, with Jenson winning by 2 points to go through to the Rotary Southern Wales District Final. Congratulations. Good luck for the next round.

Menus

Rosie: Fresh Asparagus, Pea & Mint Risotto and Lemon Tarts with Berries

Jenson: Seared Venison with Blackberry Jus and Skirrid Sunset cheesecake

Judged by Stephen Terry, well known local chef, formerly of the Hardwicke Restaurant.  He kept the morning flowing. Entertaining the audience with stories of his life as a chef and talking with the finalists about their cooking.

This cook off showed just how talented all the young chefs who competed in the earlier Club round are. Sadly Grace was unable to compete against Rosie because of illness.  Replaced by Jenson - who then went on to win.

Jenson & Rosie were presented with Certificates and cash prizes, as well as £35 vouchers for Cooks Galley of Abergavenny. Netherton Foundry from Shropshire presented them with two Spun Iron Frying Pans.

A huge thank you to Mrs Karen Brasington, Food & Nutrition teacher, King Henry VIII’s School and Stephen Terry, for their invaluable time and support in making this event such a success.
