Growing skills, building confidence:- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Jumping off a waterfall. Sitting on the edge of Pen y Fan. Not bad for a week's work.

Huge congratulations to Hannah and Cari, who've just completed their Rotary Young Leaders Award (RYLA) at the Storey Arms in Brecon.

It was genuinely inspiring seeing the young people at the end of their week. The atmosphere was buzzing, friendships and close-knit teams forged over just a few days. You could see the confidence they'd gained simply in how they moved around the room and between friendship groups.

Cari told us: "Throughout the week I enjoyed doing many challenges and improving lots of my skills including teamwork, problem solving, and communication. I'm not very good with heights but throughout the week I did manage to jump off a waterfall during gorge walking (my favourite activity of the week) and sit on the edge up on Pen y Fan. I made lots of good friends who I enjoyed spending time with and will stay in contact with in the future."

Hannah simply said, "Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity," while Cari added, "I am really grateful for my time at RYLA and for Abergavenny Rotary Club sponsoring me."

RYLA runs each summer at the Storey Arms, giving Rotary-sponsored youngsters the chance to build real leadership and problem-solving skills through gorge walking, hill walking, kayaking, caving and a final team challenge. Great fun, and a brilliant way to put everything they've learned into practice.

This is what Rotary is about. Empowering young people and building skills for their future.

Aged 16-17 in July or August 2027? Why not try something new and discover a hidden talent or two.

Thank you to Cari and Hannah for sharing their photos with us.
