The beautiful purple crocuses are now in full bloom across Abergavenny — and they carry a powerful message.

Since 1985, Rotary’s global End Polio Now campaign has been working tirelessly to eradicate polio worldwide. Thanks to decades of dedication, cases have been reduced by over 99.9%, and Rotary continues to help vaccinate millions of children every year — bringing the world closer than ever to making polio history.

Here in Abergavenny, our club proudly supports this life-changing campaign through our annual Purple for Polio crocus planting. Working alongside the Friends of Bailey Park, we’ve planted thousands of purple crocus corms around the town, including:

This stunning purple display throughout March 2026 is more than just a sign of spring — it’s a visible reminder of Rotary’s commitment to protecting children across the globe.

Why purple?

After a child is vaccinated against polio, a purple dye is applied to their little finger — a small mark that symbolises hope, protection, and progress.

Together, we can make history.

Together, we can end polio.
