Abergavenny Rotary Club is delighted to celebrate another successful year of the Rotary Young Writer Competition, part of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland’s official 2025/26 youth programme. This national competition encourages young people to develop their writing skills, creativity and confidence by responding to an annual theme.
For 2025/26, the theme was “Happiness in Nature”, a topic chosen to inspire young writers to explore the natural world and reflect on the joy it brings. Entrants could submit either prose or poetry interpreting the theme in any creative direction they wished. Â
🌿 Strong Enthusiastic Local Participation
This year, Abergavenny Rotary Club received a wonderful selection of thoughtful and creative entries from pupils at Llanfoist Fawr Primary School and King Henry VIII School. The standard was exceptionally high, with students demonstrating imagination and impressive writing ability.
The high standard of entries made judging both rewarding and challenging, and the Club is pleased to confirm that the winning submissions have now been forwarded to the Rotary District Final. We look forward to hearing the results in due course.
🙌 Huge Thanks to Our Judges
The Club extends its sincere thanks to Pip Hassall and her family, who generously gave their time to judge the large number of entries. Their support and dedication are greatly appreciated and play a vital role in making the competition a success.

🙌 Celebrating Young Talent
Abergavenny Rotary Club continues to be inspired by the creativity and talent shown by young people in our community. The Rotary Young Writer Competition is designed to nurture these skills, offering pupils the chance to express themselves, build confidence and take pride in their achievements.
We are proud to support initiatives that encourage writing and self‑expression, and we look forward to celebrating even more young authors in the years ahead.
