The Magic of Rotary: Global Impact from Abergavenny

The Rotary Club of Abergavenny is proud to have played a key role in a truly inspiring international humanitarian project — one that demonstrates the extraordinary power of Rotary collaboration at every level.

Through Rotary funds, our club contributed £2,500 to support the provision of solar-powered generators for portable emergency medical units in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Thanks to the way Rotary works globally, this initial contribution was multiplied twelve times over, helping to generate over $36,000 in total Rotary charity funding.

This remarkable outcome was made possible through the combined support of:

• 12 Rotary Clubs across South Wales

• 2 Rotary Clubs in England

• 1 Rotary Club in the United States

• District and Global Rotary Charity funds

Together, these contributions helped fund renewable energy solutions that power emergency healthcare — supporting communities in Ukraine facing unimaginable hardship. It is an outstanding example of how Rotary transforms local generosity into global impact.

The text highlights a special guest interview with the Trustee Chair of The Rotary Foundation, along with Rotary GB&I branding and a ‘Bonus Episode’ label. The design promotes Rotary’s official podcast and international humanitarian work through The Rotary Foundation.”

The episode also features a major $150,000 solar energy project in Kosovo, where Rotary funding helped replace an oil-burning hospital power system — another powerful example of Rotary collaboration across districts and countries.

The Rotary Foundation in Action

The episode includes reflections from Holger Knaack, Chair of The Rotary Foundation Trustees and former Rotary International President. Holger recently returned from Pakistan, one of only two countries where wild poliovirus remains endemic, reaffirming Rotary’s ongoing commitment to ending polio worldwide.

The Foundation remains one of the largest voluntary service charities in the world — empowering clubs like ours to support both local communities and global humanitarian work.

This Is The Magic of Rotary

From Abergavenny to Ukraine and beyond, Rotary proves what’s possible when people come together in service, compassion, and action. A local contribution, multiplied through worldwide partnership, becomes life-changing support for those who need it most.

That is the Magic of Rotary — and we are proud to be part of it.
